About Natalie
Everyone's journey is unique and sometimes we need a helping hand
My goal in session is to provide an open, warm and personable approach to therapy. I understand that therapy can be a little daunting for some and I make every effort to make each client feel comfortable and at home. I enjoy really getting to know my clients and developing a therapeutic relationship where we both feel connected and most of all, you feel heard and understood.
I believe one of the most important aspects of psychological therapy is psychoeducation and helping you understand why you may be feeling and experiencing what you are right now. We learn a great deal about our physical bodies through school and life yet we learn very little (if anything) about our mental health, how we think, why we behave and feel the way we do, what’s really happening for us. The unknowns we face daily with regards to our mental health can add to the distress we already feel. By helping you develop a strong understanding of your own mental health allows for deeper collaboration in treatment and development of your own autonomy in treatment.
Therapy wise, I am a big advocate for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Schema Therapy and enjoy utilising these forms of therapy in my treatment approaches. I also have training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, Positive Psychology and DBT based skills. I see ages from 15 years and upwards.
Personal
I am a mother of two gorgeous little boys who definitely keep me on my toes. I believe that being a working Mother and trying to do the (what often seems impossible) juggle, gives me a deeper understanding of life and, complexities and just how difficult it can be at times to find a balance that works for you. I am a wife of an Army Veteran and therefore have a good understanding of military life, its challenges and the unique opportunities it brings. I began my psychology career following completion of my undergraduate degree and Honours, working in the Psychiatric field for a non for profit organisation. This role gave me a unique exposure to extremely complex mental health presentations including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I then moved into rehabilitation and worked for several years within the workers compensation field. As such, I have a vast understanding of workplace injuries and the insurance industry. Moving on in my career, I then transitioned into private clinical practice where I have been practicing for several years alongside holding other work commitments including working as a Psychologist for the Australian Defence Force at Gallipoli Barracks. I currently work 3 days per week from Monday to Wednesday and also offer some telehealth sessions on a Thursday.
